04 Feb Cleaning up Yoast SEO bloat
Several months ago Yoast SEO started adding update notifications to the wordpress admin area. I can mostly cope with this on single user sites, but at work where we use a very large multi-network multi-site with almost a hundred users, many of whom aren’t extremely technologically apt, having random notifications for all users instead of just admins or super admins is a serious problem. I attempted to write a function that would simply disable the notifications but it didn’t work correctly with the multisite arrangement. It probably would have worked as a plugin rather than a theme function, but it was at this point that I found the SO Hide SEO Bloat plugin. I’m not necessarily endorsing the plugin as I haven’t had enough time to extensively test it, but I have tested it on our work network and so far I’m happy with its performance. It doesn’t break sites that aren’t using Yoast, and removes the notifications and other junk for sites that are using Yoast. I’m going to try it out on my own site here as well. Have you tried it? What do you think?
